monthend.finance the close as the company's record controllers.finance · if the close is yours /llms.txt

The close is a schedule with owners. Not a folder with hope in it.

monthend.finance is software, not a firm. A close calendar the company runs in place of the spreadsheet: every item named, owned, dated, and closed on the evidence attached to it.

Not open yet: no pricing and no signup. RESERVED means the name is held and nothing is running behind it. The records on this page are samples.

You already know how to close. You have done it every month, usually correctly, often late at night, and almost always from a method that lives in your head and a folder nobody else can navigate. The work is not the problem. The problem is that none of it stays.

Tell us how you close today

keys@apis.finance is the mailbox for monthend.finance · opens your mail app, with three questions already in the message. A person replies: you get an early read of the close record as it stands, and a place on the list for the first companies this opens to.

Read the close as a record ↓

Further down this page: a sample close item, a sample tie-out, and where it stops and hands anything requiring a license to a credentialed firm, so monthend.finance never signs off on your numbers.

What happens to what you send: a person reads it, it is held as correspondence so the reply can happen, and it is not published, not sold, and not passed to anyone outside the party that answers this address. Send only what you are free to send; the three questions are answerable without naming an entity.

One item is open: the bank reconciliation on account 4471, because its tie-out is not attached. The other four are dated, owned, and not yet due. OPEN marks an item whose evidence is missing, and the long tick in the margin marks its line.
Item 01

Every item has an owner and a clock.

Somewhere on your machine is a spreadsheet with about forty rows on it, and it is probably correct. What it cannot tell you is which of those rows slipped last quarter, because nothing timestamped any of them. A close item here is a record rather than a row: the entity, the period, the account it touches, a named responsible party, the kind of deadline it sits under, and the evidence that will close it. It closes on that evidence and on nothing else, so an item without its support stays open no matter who says it is fine.

One close item, as the calendar holds it.

The first thing this produces is a calendar with names on it, which is also the first time your close has existed outside a person.

Item 02

A statute is not a target, and the calendar knows the difference.

Two kinds of deadline, one list, and no way to tell them apart: that is how most close calendars are built, including yours. A date a statute sets, a credit agreement sets, or a limited partnership agreement sets is somebody's legal obligation with a consequence attached. A day-three target you set for yourself is a management decision, and a good one. They are not the same object, and software that types them the same way teaches people to ignore both. The first kind runs here on machinery you cannot reach: owned by deterministic code, carrying a named responsible party, closed only by evidence, and never extendable by configuration. The second kind is yours to move, and moving it is recorded.

No configuration on this platform extends, shortens, or silences a deadline a statute or a contract set. Your own target you can move, and moving it lands in the record, because a target that quietly slides is a rumor again.

Item 03

Reconciliations close on evidence, and the tie-out is the artifact.

Bank Rec MAR (final)(2).pdf. The support exists, it is correct, and the only person who can connect it to the account it belongs to is the person who saved it there. Evidence that cannot be found is evidence that does not exist, which the request list will demonstrate in about nine months. The tie-out here is attached to the account, dated, sourced, and addressable by someone who has never seen your close before. That is the whole mechanism, and it is why a close can be handed to a successor rather than explained to one.

One reconciliation, closed. SPECIMEN: the balances are invented and the record's shape is not.

The variance arrives with its drivers.

"Professional fees are up ninety-two percent." Nobody needs software to say that. What is wanted, before the call where someone asks, is what moved it, named in your own accounts. A variance is surfaced here against the entity's own chart, with the transactions and the period comparison that produced it, drafted for the person who owns the account to accept, edit, or reject. The explanation is authored by that owner. The platform assembles the evidence for it, and the draft stays labeled a draft until a person signs their name to it.

Item 05

The close is not reserved. The opinion is.

Four acts, and everything else. Nobody should need a professional standards library open in another tab to know which call crosses a line, so here is the line: expressing assurance on financial statements, signing a tax return, representing your entity before a taxing authority, and giving investment advice are reserved. The rest of a close, the calendar, the entries, the reconciliations, the variances, the trial balance, the packages, runs agent-native. A call that reaches a reserved act does not fail, and it does not quietly succeed either. It comes back a typed BLOCKED naming the act, the authority, the party who may lawfully perform it, and what happens next.

Two kinds of reserved act, and only one of them is routed.

Reserved actWho may perform itWhat this platform doesStatus
Sign a tax return as preparerA credentialed preparer, named on the returnReturns BLOCKED and routes to a credentialed person under a named firmROADMAP
Represent the entity before a taxing authorityA CPA, an enrolled agent, or an attorney under Circular 230Returns BLOCKED and routes to a credentialed person under a named firmROADMAP
Issue a compilation reportVaries by state; several state accountancy acts reserve it to a licensed firmReturns BLOCKED until the rule for your state is ratified, then routesROADMAP

The other kind is not on that table, and it never will be.

These three carry no status because a status is a claim about a future, and these have none. They are not on a roadmap, not awaiting a license, and not waiting on a partner. No amount of licensing, contracting, or sponsorship clears them, because performing your close and expressing assurance on it are independence-incompatible: routing this to the people who did the close would be the violation, not the cure.

What you get at the boundary that has no route. SPECIMEN response.

This is the one refusal at any of these addresses that no amount of licensing, contracting, or sponsorship clears, and it is deliberate. The suite never sells to the person expressing assurance on the books it closes.

Item 06

When it needs a credential, it goes to a credentialed person under a named firm.

Some of what is in your inbox is quietly waiting for a credential, and it has been waiting there because there was nowhere obvious to send it. Where a close item needs a credentialed reviewer, it routes to one who takes it under a named sponsoring entity's license, performs the act under their own name, and returns an Attestation: a statement of fact, never a conclusion about your entity and never an expression of assurance. A reasoned refusal is a deliverable and it is paid, because a refusal that costs someone money is not a refusal.

The Attestation, as a routed act returns it.
attestation · what the route returns
credential
The credential is named on the artifact, along with the firm that sponsors it and the state the act was performed under.
independence
Independence is a bar, not a disclosure. A reviewer who performs close work for your entity is barred from the assurance engagement on it, and the reverse. It is checked before anything unlocks, not asked about afterward.
file fee
The fee is flat and posted before the reviewer claims the work, and it never varies with what the review concludes.
route
The route is typed and refused today, and this page says so rather than implying a bench that does not exist yet.

Accounting review routes to gigs.accountants, and tax acts route to the tax doors. Neither route is live. A call to a reserved act returns the typed refusal above and nothing is routed anywhere.

Item 07

The charge attaches to the artifact, not to the effort.

Somewhere in your accounts payable is an invoice for a month in which the thing you bought did not produce anything, and you paid it, because that is how the line was written. Plenty of tools bill for trying. This one bills for the thing it produced, and the difference shows up on the receipt rather than in the pitch:

One receipt, and the four lines it names. SPECIMEN: no close SKU is live, so no amount posts.
SPECIMEN
The four fee lines are named on every receipt:
Product Fee
for platform work, invoiced to you and never to anyone you owe money to.
Telemetry Fee
for a served record.
File Fee,
flat, paid out to the credentialed person who performed a routed act.
Pass-Through
for third-party costs at cost, itemized and never marked up.
total
There is no origination fee on this property, because nothing here is credit.
Item 08

One door, and the names held beside it.

accruals.finance. reconciliations.finance. journalentries.co. You may be wondering whether the part you need has a product of its own. It does not, and that is the design. A close is one record with many parts, so the suite is one door, and each name below is a section of this page rather than a separate thing to buy.

What those names are today: held in the register, status RESERVED, and nothing more. Each one resolves to its own holding page saying so at its own address. None of them redirects here, none of them is live, and none of them is a door of this suite yet. They are listed below to say which section of this page would answer for each name if it ever opened, not to claim that any of them resolves here today.
  • Accruals

    reconciliations.finance · held, RESERVED.
  • Amortization schedules

    amortizations.finance · held, RESERVED.
  • Variances and flux
    · surfaced against your own account names, drafted for the account's owner.
    variances.finance and fluxanalysis.co · held, RESERVED.
  • Journal entries
    · prepared with their support attached, posted only on a recorded authorization from a named party at your entity.
    journalentries.co · held, RESERVED.
  • Trial balance
    · assembled and tied out as a deliverable.
    trialbalance.co · held, RESERVED.
  • Capital calls
    · notices and their supporting schedules, prepared and delivered on the notice period the agreement sets.
    capcalls.co · held, RESERVED.
  • Investor and board packages
    · assembled from the closed period rather than restated for it.
    investorupdates.co, boardpacks.click, and quarterlies.click · held, RESERVED.
  • Pay runs
    · prepared and evidenced, with the deposit and the filing left to the parties the law names.
    payruns.co · held, RESERVED.
  • Obligation forecasts
    · what the entity already owes and when, projected from the records the close produced: cash positioned, obligations dated, nothing recommended. The platform never names an instrument to put money in, and it authors no view on anything.
    forecasts.finance · held, RESERVED.

Every name above is a section of this page and a name held in the register. None of them is a separate product, a separate price, or a separate key. Each one is already a holding page of its own, stamped RESERVED at its own address, and each says so there before it says anything here.

Item 09

Three to eight sets of books, one calendar.

If you close for other people, none of the above changes and one thing does: you are doing it in three to eight systems, against as many charts of accounts, for owners who each believe their close is the only one. The method that makes that survivable is the same method that makes it expensive, because it lives in your head and it has to be rebuilt every month in a slightly different shape.

Your real product is reproducibility. This is where it stops living in one person.

Item 10

What the calendar never does.

If you are the person whose sign-off this needs, or the firm that expresses assurance on these books, this section is yours. Send it on as it stands: every claim below lands on a typed artifact printed earlier on this page.

  • 10.1Never expresses assurance.
No audit, no review, no examination, no agreed-upon-procedures report, in any register, at any price. The act is reserved to a licensed firm independent of your entity and this platform does not perform it and does not route it.
  • 10.2Never signs a tax return and never represents your entity before a taxing authority.
Both are reserved to credentialed people, both return BLOCKED with a named route, and neither is ever performed by software.
  • 10.3Never gives investment advice.
The platform positions cash and forecasts obligations. It does not recommend an instrument, and the refusal runs at the moment a recommendation would be uttered, not at the moment money would move.
  • 10.4Never closes your books.
Your entity closes its own books. The platform holds the calendar, prepares the work, carries the evidence, runs the clocks, and routes what a credential reserves.
  • 10.5Never posts on its own authority.
An entry posts on a recorded authorization from a named party at your entity, and the authorization is part of the record.
  • 10.6Never closes an item without evidence.
Not for a deadline, not for a person, not for a target.
  • 10.7Never types your target as a statute.
A date a statute or a contract set is not extendable by configuration. A date you set is yours to move, and moving it is recorded. The record says which kind it is, on every clock.
  • 10.8Never lets a fee read the day-count.
No price, payout, or score on this platform is a function of how fast a close landed.
  • 10.9Never claims an assurance conclusion about your statements,
never claims this work substitutes for an audit, a review, or a compilation, and never claims a firm's independence is unaffected by using it. What is written here is what is mechanically true, and the conclusion is the reader's to draw.
  • 10.10Never implies liveness.
Live is live. Every produced artifact printed here carries its SPECIMEN stamp, and everything not yet built carries its ROADMAP label.
  • 10.11Never keeps your record.
The close record, its evidence, and its history are your entity's. The platform holds them as a processor and surrenders them on termination or on request. Routing internals and preparation drafts are the platform's work product, which is not a hiding place: anything that influenced a number stays in the record.
  • 10.12Never becomes your ledger.
It is a record kept beside your ledger, not a second ledger and not a replacement for one, and each entity keeps its own chart and its own systems. Which ledgers and which systems it connects to is not settled yet, and none is named or promised here.

Where the close sits.

The close is one door of several that answer to one key, and none of the others is a close door. What follows is a directory rather than an argument: what each address is for, and where each one stood when this page was published.
